Cog NYC is what we like to call a Grown-Up Start-Up. While the agency itself may be fairly new, the people who run it have decades of experience in the advertising business. (Probably more than we'd like to admit.)
Wayne Best - Creative Cog
In his 20+ years in the advertising business, Wayne has built Mars, flung Jessica Simpson through the air on a wire, tossed a football with Steve Young, blown up a Yugo, seen Gary Coleman’s closet, and spent countless hours waiting for Sean “P-Diddy” Combs to show up on set.
While we believe anyone in the company can have a great idea, Wayne is responsible for guiding our creative product. Prior to founding Cog NYC he was Executive Creative Director at JWT where he created the primetime CBS animated holiday special Yes, Virginia for Macys, as well as award-winning campaigns for JetBlue and Cadbury.
Before JWT, Wayne was the Executive Creative Director at TAXI NYC. Under his leadership they grew from a handful of employees to a creative agency with over 50 employees and a dozen clients. In addition, the 4A’s voted TAXI NY the Best Small Agency in America two years in a row. Wayne has also worked at Fallon, Wieden + Kennedy, Kirshenbaum + Bond, Cliff Freeman & Partners, and Ammirati & Puris. His past clients include ESPN, Starbucks, Pepsi, Virgin Mobile, Staples, Coca-Cola, AT&T, Time Magazine, and Fox Sports, among others.
His work for those clients has won numerous Cannes Lions, One Show pencils, Effie’s, Webbies and the Jay Chiat Planning Award. And the New York Post called his Virgin Mobile “Chrismahanukwazakah” commercial the best holiday spot of all time.
He chairs the AdCouncil’s Creative Review Committee, and has worked with the 4A’s as a mentor in their Institute for Advanced Advertising Studies program. He has been a judge at the One Show and jury chair for the Art Director’s Club Hybrid awards, which honors the year’s most innovative and game-changing work.
Durk Barnhill - Business Cog
Prior to joining Cog, Durk was CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi New York and had a seat on the Worldwide Executive Board. The largest agency within the global network is home to a diverse portfolio of global and US brands, including: Tide, Pampers, Cheerios, Head & Shoulders, Iams, Yoplait, Miller Lite and Miller 64, as well as Chase Sapphire, Lenovo, Folgers, Pillsbury, Capri Sun, Theraflu and Triaminic. In his tenure at Saatchi, Durk tripled the profitability of the flagship office while winning new business, and transforming the Agency to compete in social and digital marketing.
Durk is a natural advertising leader and CEO of creative agencies, having previously been GM of Saatchi & Saatchi in San Francisco, head of the precedent-setting Miller Lite “Creative Superstar” campaign at Fallon Minneapolis Worldwide, Account Director at McCann Erickson on Nestlé USA, Head of New Business at Mother NY, and most recently President of TAXI NYC, where he doubled the size of the agency in one year.
He was Captain of Varsity Soccer at Trinity College and still plays and coaches every week. Durk has three children (all soccer players), and spends many weekends traveling with the Manhattan Hotspur (his daughters’ nationally ranked U18 travel soccer team.) His commitments are to his team, the work, defining a clear direction for the companies he leads, and to delivering results.
Andréa Demirjian - Managing Cog
Andréa is a marketer and writer with crisscrossing creative and business interests, whose client experience runs from small companies and large global advertising networks, to start-ups and Fortune 500 companies.
Having built her expertise over 20+ years, Andréa honed her strategic discipline and creative sensibilities at top tier firms (Young & Rubicam, Griffin Bacal and FCB) managing a roster of blue chip brands (i.e., AT&T, Clairol, Chef Boyardee, Colgate-Palmolive, Kraft, Nabisco, Nestlé, Sony, and USPS), before jumping ship to work independently. This translated to a range of collaborative opportunities -- from developing marketing and media plans, and managing creative and production, to writing content for web, promo pieces, press releases and CEO lead letters. B2B, digital and social also become part of her vernacular. Joining Cog NYC let's her take her nimble approach to client challenges to innovate and push through layers quickly, propelling revenue faster. It's a great way to stay in shape!
In an alias life, Andréa is a media expert and author. Her book "KISSING – Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About One of Life’s Sweetest Pleasures" (Penguin) provides her with her own brand platform to write and promote. When not contributing pieces for Coca-Cola, Glamour, Seventeen or Men’s Health, and being interviewed, Andréa acts as PR spokesperson (i.e., Abreva, Allergan, Nivea and Zoosk.com), while keeping things fresh on her blog and Twitter.
